Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Series Chronograph

Astronomical complication, timekeeping and timing functions are three types of traditional complication which are well known. The first two categories have already appeared in the Middle Ages. In contrast, the more accessible and interactive chronograph functions are not far away from us-the first fully functional chronograph appeared more than 150 years ago. . Every invention is a product of the times: The chronograph was born in the 18th and 19th centuries of the industrial and scientific revolution. The advent of the chronograph reflects people’s performance on accurate scientific data and measurement performance, especially in the sports field. Demand.

In addition to the basic hour and minute display, a chronograph must have at least one chronograph second hand with start, stop and zero functions. Behind this feature is also a rich and mysterious development history of more than 100 years. When Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet founded Audemars Piguet in 1875, they began to use the mature chronograph technology at that time. Of the 1,625 timepieces produced by Audemars Piguet from 1880 to 1890, 627 were equipped with a chronograph function, of which 299 had a chase-on-chronograph function and 6 had a lightning femtosecond function.
The total number of chronograph watches produced by Audemars Piguet before 1980 was only 320. By the 1980s, Audemars Piguet relaunched chronograph watches with a low-volume, manual retouching strategy. In the 1990s, chronographs occupied the largest share of watches made by Audemars Piguet-in 1993, Audemars Piguet launched the Royal Oak Offshore watch with extreme sports, most of which are equipped with chronograph function. During this period, the timekeeping function was also combined with other complex functions or mechanisms, including calendars, minute repeaters and tourbillons. The Audemars Piguet Royal Oak series launched the first chronograph in 1997. The thickness of the chronograph movement was less than 5.5 mm, making it one of Audemars Piguet’s most successful models. Since then, many versions of this best-selling timepiece have been launched. Today, the Royal Oak Chronograph has become one of the core products of this series.

In 2017, the dial of the Royal Oak series chronograph was sublimated to reveal a new aesthetic: a fresh and clear two-tone dial design with new details and modern luxury sports temperament; 30 minutes and 12 at 3 and 9 o’clock The size of the sub-hour dial is increased accordingly; the length of the hour mark is slightly reduced and the width is increased, which is more visually beautiful, and the new fluorescent coating has improved the readability. In addition, the timing button no longer uses the previous screw-in design, which greatly improves the convenience of the timing function. Four of the new rose gold models feature 18K rose gold bracelets or crocodile leather straps and large blue or brown ‘Grande Tapisserie’ checkered dials. The three stainless steel models are decorated with black, silver or blue ‘Grande Tapisserie’ checkered dials, with stainless steel bracelets.
